CaSE - All About Our Program

What is it?

The CASE program equips students, also known as "Data Rangers", with an advanced awareness and understanding of database and computer programming concepts. Technical hands-on experience with common industrial programming languages and database tools, coupled with learning opportunities to collaborate with and lead fellow peers, helps students excel in their future technical careers.

Why become a part of the program?

CASE students not only experience a wide range of computer experiences which help them choose the career path they desire, but are also equipped with a competitive technical advantage over those in traditional secondary technical courses. Because teamwork is critical in today's careers, a team approach is often utilized. Students build knowledge of database and programming concepts and apply this knowledge to practical situations. Real programs and databases will be developed, not just practice exercises. Each student builds a portfolio of applications they developed as a service to the school or community. Many CASE courses are also articulated with JCCC for College Now credit. Students will be prepared to work as an entry-level programmer, or be placed in a better position for college acceptance and scholarship acquisition.

Acquired skills

Student front-end (user interface) and back-end (server) programming skills will be built, refined, and evaluated through project based learning and associated performance assessments. In addition, students will understand programming and database applications through the user, programmer, and database administrator's points of view. Database skills include data mining, data warehousing, data manipulation, data normalization, technical configuration, and administrative duties in the most popular formats available today.

Introductory Course - Data Forensics

This initial CASE course provides an overview and understanding of careers, ethics, and other essentials related to the computer programming and database fields. Students will analyze computer programming and database careers and associated job descriptions, job outlook, job responsibilities, and projected salaries. Students will also learn technical writing, basic logic, data recovery, data security, leadership, team building skills, copyright laws, shop standards, software beta testing, computer ethics, and licensing agreements. Students will be exposed to Visual Basic .Net and its uses in today's marketplace. Upon completion students will have a solid understand of how the computer works from the hardware and software perspective.
