Internet Safety

The Internet is a powerful tool which allows an infinite amount of information to be available at our finger tips! As amazing as this is there are precautions that parents and teachers alike must take to ensure that our children remain safe while on the Internet. Because the Internet is a public forum, free speech is more than a right - it is the rule. We must acknowledge that there is inappropriate material on the Internet and then do everything we can to actively avoid this material. Student should know that accessing any such material in any form is strictly prohibited.

At the beginning of the school year, in each class we discussed the District's Acceptable Use Policy and I encourage you to follow these guidelines at home as well. Here are a few general rules to help keep your student safe when using the Internet:

  • Supervision, supervision, supervision. Keep an eye on your student when they are using the Internet.
  • Take time to make sure your student is responsible when on the Internet and show them appropriate sites they can visit.
  • Create a list of appropriate educational sites and bookmark these on your computer.
