Welcome to Sunnyside’s Fifth Grade! We’re so glad to get to know you this year. Because our fifth graders will be making the move to middle school next year, Sunnyside has made the move to departmentalization in fifth grade. We believe this change will result in more effective teacher instruction and greater student preparation for success in future grades.

In order to minimize confusion, we as a teaching team are making every effort to remain consistent in our classroom policies across the board.  This website contains all the general information you need to know to be successful in fifth grade, no matter which homeroom classroom you end up in.

Due to departmentalization, each fifth grade student will actually have two of the fifth grade teachers for instruction in various content areas. See above for teacher content area assignments, then click on our Teacher Website links on the sidebar to zip over to their individual websites, where you will find a lot more information on each teacher, as well as their content areas.
