Cedar Creek will be competing in the “Doodle4Google” national competition again this year. Each 5th and 6th Grade class has had a brief description of the contest and what they should be submitting if they would like to compete. This is optional opportunity for the students. Letters and templates will be sent home in Friday Folder notify parents of the competition and to give the students an opportunity to begin their artwork.
The website for the contest is: http://www.google.com/doodle4google/ You can find more information on this site along with several templates for your student to use. Cedar Creek is only allowed to submit 6 entries for the school. Your student will be notified if his/her artwork is chosen as one of the entries.
Good luck to all!

Parents of Students in Grades 3-6:
This year Cedar Creek students are using a new program to practice their keyboarding skills in computer class. This program is called Type to Learn 4 and it is available for free download at home. TTL4 is a web-based program which enables students to work at home, continuing on where they left off at school. Our district curriculum places a very high emphasis on keyboarding for all students in third through sixth grades. Please know that this is not “homework”, simply something students can do outside of class for extra practice if they choose to do so.
Also remember as fun as it is, keyboarding for your student will only make it more difficult for them to progress through the program.
Instructions for downloading TTL4:
- Go to http://www.ttl4.sunburst.com/downloads and scroll down to FULL VERSIONS. Click on the link to install TTL4 for MAC or the Windows operating system that you have.
- On the first window that pops up, click Save; it will automatically save to your desktop. (This can take up to 1-2 hours, depending on your computer and connection speed.)
- Click Open – NOT Open Folder
- Double click on icon, and then click on Run
- Click Next
- Click to download the program
- Click I Agree, then install
- To launch the program, double click on the TTL4 icon (shown above) on your desktop.
To log-in, the students need to enter the following information:
Student ID# (5-digit code)
Password (first initial, middle initial and last name up to 12 characters TOTAL):
Account code – Provided in Second Quarter Specialist Newsletter or email me and I will provide the code. Thanks!
(The Account Code will only need to be entered the first time the program is accessed from home.)

I am thrilled with the participation in the Doodle4Google Contest this year! We had over 20 submissions which is more than double the number of submissions last year. Everyone did a fabulous job and it was unfortunate that we could only send six submissions…
This year’s theme was “What I Wish For The World” and it seems ‘going green’, conservation and world peace topped our student’s wish lists!

It is a privilege to spend time with your children on a weekly basis. I enjoy giving students the opportunity to explore and learn through the use of technology. From our kindergarten students who are learning the basic parts of the computer and mouse skills to our sixth graders who use computers to create video and audio presentations, there is so much to see and do in the Cedar Creek Computer Lab!
We are learning computer skills that will be used throughout the reminder of their education and beyond.
Please visit this blog often as it will continuously be updated with what your children are learning in technology.
