Welcome to the new school year! I want your child to have a fun and successful year in Kindergarten. Above I have listed the school phone number, e-mail address, and my web site. Please feel free to contact me if there are situations that need to be discussed. The best times to reach me at school are; from 8:00 – 8:15 and 3:40 – 4:00. Please feel free to e-mail me; school district policy is: I have 24 hours to return a phone call and e-mail.
School Hours: School begins promptly at 8:20 – and ends at 3:40. Tardy students are expected to complete their missed work at home.
Attendance:
A successful school experience is the responsibility of the children, the parent, and the school. Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is a key. If your child is sick please contact the office.
Transportation:
If you plan to have your child go home with a friend, you must send a written note or contact the office at 780-7310. We do not rely on your child to tell us this information, because children often become confused and relay information incorrectly. If no written note or phone call is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
School Work:
Please look in your child’s backpack each day. I send all school news by way of your child in your child’s
HOME/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION FOLDER. These folders will come home daily and are to be sent back each day. Please remove all papers from your child’s folder each day. Please send all notes, money and other important things you want me to find to school in your child’s folder.
Fee Based Kindergarten Curriculum:
Our Kindergarten Day includes the following subject areas; Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, PE, Computer, Library, Spanish, and Counselor.
Water Bottles:
Brain –based resource suggests that drinking water helps fuel our minds! If children would like to bring a water bottle that is fine. Please make sure it is marked with their name and that the top is one that can close easily and not leak on all of our hard work!
Lunch:
Each child has the opportunity to bring a sack lunch or buy a school lunch. If the children chooses to buy a school lunch; they’re given the choice of 2 entrées; they may chose fruits and vegetables from the cart. Please talk to your child about their lunch choices each day.
Snacks:
Each child has the opportunity to order white or chocolate milk in the morning. If your child has a milk allergy, please let Mrs. Dawson and the nurse know ASAP. I can order a juice for that type of situation! Please let me know if your child has food allergies. The students will have their milk in the afternoon.
Birthdays:
Birthday treats are appreciated but certainly not expected. Please check with Mrs. Dawson about food allergies. You may read your child’s favorite book to the class. Please send a note to let me know when you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday; I want to avoid celebrating two birthdays on the same day.
Reading/Homework Calendar:
Black Bob Elementary has an all school reading program. The students who meet their reading goals for the months of September – December will participate in an all school party. The students who meet their reading goals for the months of January-April will participate in an all school party. The Kindergartners are expected to read a total of 320 minutes a month. You may include homework time on the calendar. Each month the students meet their goal we will have a classroom reward. Research shows ~ the more children read the better they will do in school.
Behavior and Discipline:
Our classroom rules include:
Be kind to others
Raise your hand to speak
Listen while others are talking
Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
Always do your best work
I believe in having high expectations of the students to follow classroom rules and to help them understand the reasons behind rules. I want all the students to have the opportunity to learn and for no student to keep another student from having the opportunity to learn. I strive to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for the students.
At the end of the day all of the students who have met my behavior expectations will receive a stamp in their folder. I encourage parents to discuss with their child why they did not receive a daily stamp. If your child does not receive a stamp, please feel free to contact me.
I will contact you by phone or e-mail if there is ever a situation that needs to be discussed. It is important to me that we keep our lines of communication open and work together to meet the needs of your child.
