All the great things that are happening in 6th grade!

We have been really busy the last couple of weeks in 6th grade.  We have been doing a lot of review and prep for state assessments in both math and reading.  In Science we have been learning about our genes and what we inherit from our parents.  In Social Studies we have been learning about Ancient China.  In math we have also learned about how to find perimeter and area. 

Conferences are today and tomorrow.  No school Friday or Monday!

6th grade news

We have been learning about angles in math.  We have learned about Anicient India in Social Studies.  In reading we finished reading a story about the pyramids of Egypt.  In Science we are working on a Adopt-an-Element project.  Please be checking out the newsletter for all the upcoming events!

Thanksgiving is over…

We are moving and grooving in 6th grade!  Only 3 weeks until Christmas break!  :)   Hope you had a great Thanksgiving break.  Continue to check back often for the latest news in 6th grade!

Happenings in 6th grade

This week in math we completed our second district assessment.  We also spent time reviewing division, comparing fractions, and metric conversions.   We have a test next Wednesday in Social Studies over Egypt.  We are starting to learn about chemistry in Science.  We read a story about a flood in reading.  We are learning some great reading and math strategies!  Only 2 weeks until Thanksgiving break!!!

Upcoming News

We really enjoyed meeting and talking with parents at parent-teacher conferences!  We had a great turn out and feel that arena style conferences went well!  Thanks for your participation with this!  This upcoming week we will start spelling again.  We will also start a new book, Tuck Everlasting.  Our Hatchet projects looked great!  :)   Thanks for your help parents!  On Friday afternoon we will have our Halloween party in the cafeteria.  Please remember that your child should not come to school in their costumes.  Also please remember that their costumes should not have a scary look to them and any thing portraying a weapon is not acceptable!  Look forward to seeing all the great looking costumes!

We have had another good week in 6th grade.  This week we went on a Field Trip to the Nelson Atkins Museum.  We had a great time learning about some anicient art and making a little art of our own!  We learned about Egypt in Social Studies, 3 phases of matter in Science, worked on fractions in math, and continued working on our Hatchet projects in reading!!!  Please make sure you are checking the newsletter each week for upcoming dates and information regarding what is happening here in 6th grade and at Tomahawk!!!!  We look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher Conferences coming up this next Wednesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 22nd. 

What’s New?

We have a short week this week.   We will have a regular schedule Monday-Wednesday.  On Thursday we will be going on a field trip to Nelson Atkins Museum.  If your child has not returned their permission slip please do so as soon as possible.  There is no school on Friday of this week.  We will not be doing spelling this week or next.   Please also remember that we will have Parent-Teacher conferences coming up on Wednesday the 21st, and Thursday the 22nd.  There will be no school on Thursday the 22nd and no school on Friday the 23rd.

HOWDY!!

This week in 6th grade we finished up a unit in Science and began a new unit  in Social Studies.  We completed our Beginning of the Year test for reading and have been busy as usual in math.  Please look at all the information in your childs newsletter regarding upcoming events.   Also we will be begin our Hatchet projects in reading.  Your child will be expected to do a part of the project at home.  We will be sending home a letter next week regarding our conferences this year.  Hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather!
